A CARE home in Bromsgrove is getting ready to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in style with sea of Gaelic green and a bit of a knees-up on Monday, March 17.

Breme Care Home in Providence Road will be decorated from top to toe in shamrocks and leprechauns, while the residents receive a visit from a troupe of Appalachian dancers called ‘Step on Board’ who perform traditional clog dances in full costume and using a special wooden platform.

The entertainment will also feature music from bob Bignell and ‘The Three Fivers’.

Later on residents will be tucking into an Irish stew with colcannon, and getting the chance to sample a whisky fruit cake.

Helen Barron, the home’s activities leader, moved to England from Kilkenny in southern Ireland in 1988, and she’ll be leading the celebrations.

She said: “The residents at Breme share my enthusiasm for St Patrick’s Day and absolutely love getting into the spirit of the occasion – and I am sure this year will be no exception.

“It is wonderful to share stories with them about my Irish roots and they are really looking forward to having a good party.”
