BROMSGROVE police are investigating an incident in which an elderly man had his wallet stolen in a distraction theft.

The victim was being helped out of his car parked in Windsor Street between 11.30am and 12.30pm on Friday, March 14.

Two people, a man and a woman both of foreign appearance, approached and offered to help get his wheelchair out of the car.

While helping the elderly man into the wheelchair they grabbed his coat and arms.

The victim realised afterwards his wallet had been stolen by the pair.

Although the elderly man went to the bank and cancelled his cards, during this time the offenders were able to visit a cash point and steal £290.

A West Mercia Police spokesman called the incident a typical distraction theft, and said it was being investigated by officers.

Crime prevention advice includes that people should always be aware and look after their valuables, and pin numbers should never been kept with bank cards.
