RUBERY Drama Group is performing a play to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

The group is performing The Accrington Pals between Thursday evening, May 1, and Saturday, May 3.

The play tells the story of the pals battalion recruitment in 1914, and its near total destruction at the battle of the Somme in France.

The play is being performed at Beacon Church Centre, in Whetty Lane, and is being directed by the church's minister, Reverend Ian Ring, who is a member of the drama group.

An additional performance has been organised, taking place on Wednesday evening, (April 30). Money raised at the event will be donated to charity.

Doors open at 7pm, with performances stating at 7.30pm.
