A HOMELESS black cat dubbed 'the most unwanted pet in Britain' is now being cared for at a Bromsgrove animal adoption centre.

Casey is being looked after at the Blue Cross rehoming centre, in Wildmoor Lane.

It is the latest stop for the 13-year-old after previously spending time at the charity's centres in North Yorkshire and Oxfordshire, in bids to find him a new home.

Casey was originally taken to the charity's centre in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, in May last year after his elderly owner could no longer look after him.

But despite the attempts to rehome him by the different centres, the unlucky black cat has continued to be overlooked by potential owners and has ended up spending longer at the Blue Cross then any other pet.

The charity rehomed 8,000 pets last year, with an average stay lasting just 35 days, so Casey has been homeless for 10 times longer than most cats Blue Cross care for.

Nicola Halfpenny, Blue Cross' animal welfare assistant, said: "Casey is a great cat with a super personality.

"He is cuddly and affectionate and we don't know why no one wants him as he would make such a lovely pet.

"We often struggle to rehome black cats and people might think he is too old, but at 13 he still has potentially years left and lots of love to give."

Anyone interested in adopting Casey, or any of Blue Cross pets, can call the centre on 0300 777 1460.
