TOWN runners are being encouraged to put on their running shoes and sign up for a 10k run organised as part of Bromsgrove Carnival.

The Timberhonger 10K and Children's challenge races are being held on the evening of Saturday, July 12, as part of the Carnival Gala at Sanders Park, in Kidderminster Road.

The Timberhonger 10k starts at 6pm and follows a challenging course down Timberhonger Lane.

There are carnival medals for all finishers in both races.

The children's challenge starts three and four hours earlier at 5.15pm.

There is an extra reason for adult runners to race this year, as they will be able to enjoy a special carnival ale produced by the local Birds Brewery.

Entry is £14 for the adult race, £12 for the running club members. On the day entry costs £15 for adults, £13 for running club members.

Runners must be 15 or over, and can sign up at timberhonger10k.co.uk.

The children's challenge is just under a mile, and £5 entry.

All profits from the race are being split between nominated charities the Friends of the Princess of Wales Hospital, The Primrose Hospice, and local homeless charity The Basement Project.

• Timberhonger Lane, New House Lane and parts of Berry Lane and Whitford Road will be closed to traffic during the race on the Saturday, from 6pm to 7.30pm.
