A POPULAR show is set to be even bigger this year by incorporating classes organised by a horticultural society.

The Hanbury Countryside Show is set to feature sections for produce, flowers, floral art, home baking, preserves, handicrafts and photography, as well as special classes for children to decorate plant pots and make birthday cards.

Emily Steenton, the event's horticultural and homecraft secretary, said: "I have enjoyed competing in the horse classes in the past and having visited last year I was amazed at how much the show had grown.

"It was very well attended and professionally run. I was pleased to find out that there was the opportunity to get involved with the running of the show and I hope that local people will take the opportunity to help make this year’s show a success too.”

There are many classes in each section and the best in section winner can look forward to being presented with one of the impressive trophies available.

These include the Vernon Rose Bowl, which was donated to the Hanbury Horticultural Society by Sir George Vernon of Hanbury Hall for the produce section and the Bearcroft Cup, donated by Major Bearcroft, for the floral art section.

The best in home baking will receive the Muriel Liddle Cup, the best photograph will be awarded the Harry Ford Cup, while children can win the Webbs Garden Centre Cup.

The show is being held on Saturday, July 5, at Park Hall Farm.
