Time for tea at Bromsgrove care home
12:00pm Friday 13th June 2014 in News
IT’S time for tea at a Bromsgrove care home with the opening of a new traditional tea room.
St John’s Court care home, in St John Street, had a grand opening of the new rooftop tea room, including a cutting of the ribbon, on Thursday, (June 5).
A quiet room at the top of the care home was chosen and converted into the tea room, as it has views over the building’s ornate rooftop, St John’s Church and a green.
There was lots of input from the residents and staff with one resident, Betty Cooper, taking a keen interest in the project as her sister ran a tea room on the Isle of Wight.
Betty and Heather, the home's activity organiser, went to look around shops to get some ideas of how they wanted it to look and found the perfect furniture.
The room has been stocked with an array of china cups and saucers, plus vintage and ornamental teapots and ornaments.
Laura Wilkes, from Somerset Redstone Trust that runs the care home, said: "Betty had a particular flare and knew exactly what she was looking for and wanted.
"We were also well supported by relatives and staff who brought in items for the tea room."
"Betty, Heather and other residents had a fabulous time getting the room ready and were very excited and keen to show their purchases to the other residents, families and visitors."
• St John's is taking part in national care home open day, being held on Friday, June 20.
The care home will be holding a coffee morning and quiz.
Visitors are welcome to attend between 7.30am and 12.30pm, refreshments will be available throughout.
The care home is also looking for volunteers.
Everyone is welcome to register an interest - even those only able to spare an hour a week. Anyone interested is asked to pop in for a chat or call 01527 575070.
