A CARE worker based in Bromsgrove has received national recognition for her work.

Holly Turner, who works at Shaw Healthcare’s supported living services in Bromsgrove, was named Care Newcomer of the year at the National Learning Disabilities Awards.

Holly attended and picked up her award at a ceremony, held in Edgbaston stadium in May.

Holly said: "I am incredibly proud to have won this award – it’s come as a complete surprise.

"It’s great to know that I was chosen because of what people saw in me - I just feel like I’m just doing my day-to-day job.

“In this role you’re so focused on making sure that everything runs smoothly and people get the care and support they need, you don’t tend to think that you’re going the extra mile. I just want to ensure that the people I look after are happy.”

Commenting on why Holly was presented with the award, the judging panel said: “Holly made a significant impression on the judges.

"She demonstrated a real enthusiasm and passion for delivering personal care and support to those she is working with.

"Having studied psychology and worked in a hospital, Holly has developed a real commitment to working with people with learning disabilities and developing her skills.”

The National Learning Disabilities Awards celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities and aim to pay tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in providing quality care.
