A FAMILY from Catshill have taken part in a 4x4 rally around Europe to visit and pay their respects at a number of memorial sites from the first and second world wars, as well as raising money for Help for Heroes.
Sally and Keith Evans made the trip with their son Dylan, who wore his grandfather’s medals to the sites as part of a journey to mark 70 years since the Normandy landings and 100 years since the start of the First World War.
The family aimed to raise £4,000 for the charity from the ‘Help for Heroes 4×4 European Rally 2014’ and a number of other evening fundraisers, setting out from Hungerford, which was the headquarters of the US 101st Airborne Division in England during the Second World War, before taking a 12 day journey over 2,000 miles through seven countries including the UK, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Austria and Germany, finishing up at Hitler’s ‘Eagles’ Nest’ in Bavaria.
Mr Evans said: “We have had an amazing humbling time. We are going to apply to take part again next year as a team which would be the third year running.“
