A RESIDENT at a Bromsgrove care home celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, August 5.

Margaret Chance, who lives at The Meadows Nursing Home, was born and lived in Bournheath and Fairfield before moving to Orchard Road, Sidemoor when she married Dennis.

Before her retirement, she worked at De Greys café and cake shop, the Austin Motor Company, Farr’s cake shop on the Stourbridge Road and in the Refectory at Bromsgrove College.

Mrs Chance has a daughter Jayne, a son-in-law John, three grand-daughters,Karen, Hannah and Rachel and four great-grandchildren, Madeline, Joshua, Riley and Jamie.

Until poor eyesight prevented her, Margaret liked to sew, cook, watch TV quiz programmes and she successfully ran an Over 60s Club in Sidemoor.

She loved to go to the vegetable auction in The Market Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays where she was affectionately known as ‘mother.’

To celebrate the special occasion she enjoyed afternoon tea with family, friends, residents and staff at The Meadows and had a ‘golden-oldies’ sing-a-long.

Amongst her many celebratory cards she received one from The Queen.
