UROLOGY staff at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch have been awarded a Big Thank You in recognition of their hard work and commitment.

The team in the urology ward, Ward 10, were presented with a celebratory certificate and Big Thank You cake after receiving a stream of positive feedback and thanks from their patients.

Urology is a surgical speciality, covering the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs.

Every year in Worcestershire around 8,000 urological procedures are performed.

More than 32 members of staff, including doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants, work on the ward to provide care for patients before and after their surgery.

Awarding the team was trust chief executive, Penny Venables. She said “After reading several letters of praise from patients and relatives, it was clear that this team’s dedication needed recognition. The care and compassion they show to their patients makes so much difference to their hospital stay.”

Consultant urologist Adel Makar said: “Staff in the urology ward don’t realise how good they really are. It is great that Penny took the time to come and personally thank them for the excellent care they all provide to our patients."

The Big Thank You is an internal scheme to recognise staff for their outstanding contribution and hard work. The monthly award recognises frontline staff, and gives them the opportunity to meet with senior managers informally.
