A BROMSGROVE open air museum is holding a celebration of 800 years of Worcestershire cider and perry production.

An Apple Day event is being held at Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings, in Stoke Heath, on Sunday, September 28.

The event has become a popular annual one celebrating the rural tradition of bringing in the year's harvest and preparation for the winter months.

The museum will be hosting a day of activities and demonstrations in and around the historic buildings at the site.

Weather permitting the museum's famous 19th century windmill will be sailed and there will be traditional baking in the wood fired oven in the Victorian Toll House using apples from Avoncroft’s own trees.

Local beekeepers will be demonstrating their skills and offer locally produced honey for sale.  Visitors are invited to bring along their own apples to be put into the museum’s 100 year old “scratter” which is used to pulp the apples. They will also need to bring their own containers for the juice.

During the event there will be demonstrations of traditional blacksmithing and chainmaking skills, and Victorian and Tudor re-enactors around the museum grounds.

Avoncroft’s popular miniature train will be running and there will be “have a go” archery, pony rides and “The Scarecrow and the Rabbit” puppet show.
