ALL five jobs at the Bromsgrove Phones 4u store have been saved after Vodafone agreed to take over the running of the store.

But only two jobs at the Redditch branch have been saved after it was confirmed it would be closing as no mobile operators stepped in.

Last week the Advertiser reported the branches, in Bromsgrove High Street and Redditch's Kingfisher Shopping Centre, had shut their doors after the company went into administration.

The collapse followed a shock decision by EE to join Vodafone in cutting ties with the retailer, which sold contracts on behalf of the network operators.

But in the last week EE confirmed it was taking over 58 stores, while Vodafone agreed to take on 140 outlets.

It was confirmed today that Bromsgrove's store was one of those Vodafone had agreed to take over.

In a statement the company said its offer had been accepted by the administrators, PwC, and the Phones 4u employees would keep their jobs in the town store, which would be rebranded as Vodafone "as soon as possible".

Vodafone has previously had a branch in Bromsgrove High Street, before it was closed.

However the administrators have announced it has failed to prevent the closure of the Redditch store, leading to five redundancies.

Rob Hunt, joint administrator and PwC partner said: “It is with much regret that we have made the difficult decision.

"It is a very sad day for the staff and our thoughts are with them.

"We will make every effort to help the affected staff, working with the Phones 4u HR team over the coming days to support employees."
