A DIFFERENT type of fundraiser was held for a cancer charity at a Bromsgrove chemist last weekend.

Macmillan Cancer Support, which supports people living with cancer and their families, held its World's Biggest Coffee Morning event on Friday, (September 26).

Staff at Boots the Chemist, in High Street, went the extra mile by putting on their running shoes and taking part in the Tour De Worcester and Warwick event.

Staff were challenged to cycle 120 miles on an exercise bike, donated by Altered Images gym. The distance was chosen because it is the same as if you were to ride from Boots' store furthest in the east of the region, at Leamington, to the most western store in Leominster - taking in all the firm's stores along the way.

The event took place over two days, Friday and Saturday, and involved all 30 staff members, with some collecting money from visitors in buckets.

Overall £84.05 was raised, which will be put towards the region's total that is expected to have raised hundreds for the charity.

Boots and Macmillan have a partnership having developed a scheme to directly help people affected by cancer through practical support projects.

Jill Hunt, from the store, said the community were very supportive of the event, which encourages them to do more fundraisers in the future.
