THOUSANDS of visitors attended Bromsgrove Police and Fire Station’s open day held in Slideslow Drive at the weekend.

On Saturday, September 27, between 12 and 4pm, visitors could have their finger prints taken, enjoy a fairground ride or be the subject of a ‘wanted’ poster.

The free event, which was a hailed a big success, included a range of vehicles and equipment on display and demonstrations including a chip pan fire and a road traffic collision.

Police mascot Peeler and fire brigade’s mascot Welephant joined in the fun by meeting and greeting children at the event.

Police dogs and their handlers were in attendance and The Wildlife Trust also brought along a range of animals.

Inspector Sarah Corteen, responsible for policing Bromsgrove, said: "People have been able to see the variety of what we do everyday and gain an insight into our joint working with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and our partners who contribute to making Bromsgrove a safe place to live.

"It was great to see so many families who had a chance to see what we do up close and speak with our partners.

"I am hugely grateful to everyone who contributed to the open day to make it a wonderful day for all those who attended.

"Recognition has to go to the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, Bill Longmore who funded this event for the community.”

The Heart of Worcestershire College took part in the event by opening up the Slideslow Drive campus, between 12 and 3pm, to host a range of activities.

The free event was put on by West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, Bill Longmore and was shared with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
