A BROMSGROVE-based charity has been given a boost after a town resident's impressive fundraising effort.

Lara Jackson, a team leader at Altered Images gym, took part in the London Marathon in April to raise money for the Stroke Association.

The Worcester Road-based gym has a partnership with the Stroke Association, and has launched its own ARNI Rehabilitation Centre, offering exercise sessions to stroke survivors.

All the money she raised has now been added up and an impressive total of £1,000 has been donated to the charity.

Lara said: “After meeting many stroke survivors and hearing their stories, I was really inspired to take on this run.

“The day was a great experience – to have the motivation from the crowd made it really special. When reaching the finish line, I could only think of all the support I’ve received for the preparation of this run.

"I want to thank all the local community for getting behind me, it made the world of a difference.”

Lara added that she was proud to have raised money for the charity, and hoped it will help with its work supporting stroke survivors and their families.

Claire Benfield, from the Stroke Association, said: “There are around 152,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s one every three and a half minutes.

"We’re a charity that relies on people like Lara and the team at Altered Images to raise funds so we can be there for families affected by stroke.

"We hope Lara hangs up her trainers for now, and has some well-deserved rest.”
