BROMSGROVE and Redditch residents are being asked to think about giving any items they're looking to throw away a new lease of life by taking advantage of the many re-use options in the area.

Every day across Worcestershire things end up going to landfill sites that might have been put to use. This costs the taxpayer money and also has a negative effect on the environment.

Anyone thinking of having a clear out or tidy ahead of the festive period is being encouraged to 're-think and re-use' by either donating items to organisations in and around Bromsgrove and Redditch or by taking it to one of the household recycling centres, which accepts materials for re-use. Not only will they be doing their bit to help Mother Nature but many such groups are charities that rely on such donations, so they'll also be helping their communities.

Some of the organisations in the area include Boomerang, in Redditch, NewStarts in Bromsgrove, and the Primrose Hospice. All three accept all items.

Councillor Anthony Blagg, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for environment, said: "There are many great charities, groups and social enterprises across Worcestershire, including in and around Bromsgrove and Redditch, that play a big part in helping to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, whilst also doing so much good in their areas.

"If you're thinking of having a tidy-up to create some space around the home ahead of the festive period then take advantage of the services the organisations offer. Not only will you be doing a bit for the environment but you'll also be helping to make a difference in your communities.

"Don’t forget our household recycling centres can also help give unwanted items a new lease of life."
