THE Basement Project in Bromsgrove is attempting to bid for funding to help take some of its clients to the seaside.

Last year, the charity, which works with young people from 16-25 years old who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, arranged a trip to take 35 young clients to Weston Super Mare for a day trip.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “It was the first time many of them had seen the sea. We provided a picnic lunch and organised games on the beach for everyone. The trip was fully funded and we would love to do the same again in 2015.

"Living on low incomes or benefits mean it is very hard to save money for luxuries. Living day to day can be difficult and if a sudden bill comes along, such as the washing machine breaks or the children need new shoes, spare income is quickly used up.

"The young people really appreciated the chance to get away and have a fun, traditional day by the sea.”

The charity is applying for the funding through the Galaxy Fund, organised by the chocolate manufacturer, which is donating five cash awards to local community groups and charities across the UK every week, with an additional donation of £300 going to the People’s Choice entry each week.
