A KENYAN charity has received a much-needed boost with a generous donation from the Bromsgrove community group, Lickey Valley Trefoil Guild.

At the start of 2014, the group decided that they wanted to support Our Home Nakuru.

Bromsgrove man Billy Jones moved to Kenya more than a year ago to set up the community focused organisation with an orphanage its centre.

During the year, the group knitted and crocheted toys for various events including Alvechurch Lunch in the Park and a Christmas fair held at Alvechurch Village Hall.

They took part in various craft demonstrations and completed commissions, raising a total of £575 for the charity.

Val Docherty, chairwoman of Lickey Valley Trefoil Guild, said: “We invited Laura, the online editor for Our Home, to join us at one of our monthly meetings.

“She gave a very interesting talk on the achievements being made for several of Nakuru’s street children and orphans in providing a secure home, medical and educational needs.

“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported our appeal during 2014.”

Billy's sister Polly said: “Billy is so thankful of this money and would love to express his gratitude to the ladies via the Advertiser so they can become recognised."

Lickey Valley Trefoil Guild, is an adult guiding group, which encourages members to make new friends, travel, explore, serve the community and help guiding and scouting thrive in Bromsgrove.

They meet on the second Wednesday of the month from 7.30 to 9.30pm at Barnt Green Scout and Guide Centre, Blackwell Road, Barnt Green.
