AMERICAN self-described professional eater and bodybuilder Randy Santel visited Bromsgrove to take part in Big Dave's Breakfast Sandwich Challenge.

The founder and owner of foodchallenges.com, a website dedicated to defeating food eating contests stopped off at Big Dave’s Cafe, during his 2015 UK Tour, on Friday, January 23.

He finished Big Dave's Breakfast Sandwich Challenge in 22 minutes and 29 seconds-a record-breaking six minutes faster than the previous champion.

His friend, Emma Dolton, from Bromsgrove was the only other person to ever complete the challenge until Randy, aged 28, finished it.

The breakfast sandwich, invented by cafe owner Dave Blackburn, includes a whole loaf of bread with bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, black pudding, haggis and tomatoes.

Dave said he used to give participants 30 minutes to finish the challenge but after no one was able to complete it, he then allowed an extra 10 minutes.

He said: “I knew he would finish as soon as I saw him, he is huge. I asked him after if he was full and he said he could eat.

“I think he will be the only one who does it at that speed, he it didn’t chew it, he swallowed it.”

He added that more than 30 people had tried to tackle the sandwich with only two champions.

Randy said: “I completed Big Dave's Breakfast Sandwich Challenge at Big Dave's Cafe in Bromsgrove, England.

“I joined Emma Dalton up on their wall of fame. Basically, five of many breakfast foods between a full loaf of layered bread.

“Tons of bread, but a delicious and flavourful challenge.

“It wasn’t that difficult.

“It wasn’t massive, it was the perfect size for the English people in the area.

“Some Challenges are based on American challenges, they’re huge portions that eaters aren’t really used to eating, so there aren't that many people who can complete the challenges.

Randy said his hardest challenge in the UK, so far, had been at Mac’s Cafe in Burton where he took on the undefeated Almighty M Challenge consisting of four long bread rolls filled with English breakfast foods. He completed the challenge in 53 minutes and 38 seconds.

On beating Emma’s time, Randy said: “There is no resentment, she was more excited- she likes Big Dave’s too.”

Randy, from Missouri, will take part in more than 40 challenges before finally flying back home on Tuesday, February 10.
