A BROMSGROVE school has held a successful forces careers evening.

Bromsgrove School, in Worcester Road, invited representatives to the school from the British Forces including the RAF, the Royal Navy and the Army.

Major Mark Banwell, the officer commanding of the Bromsgrove School CCF, who organised the event, welcomed Major John Arundell and his colleagues from the British Armed Forces who spoke to pupils about careers in the military.

The evening featured a video on the conflicts from the last decade and presentations about Army life.

Among the speakers were Major Rose Worthy, who talked about her time at Sandhurst, and Captain Bob McAughtrie. who spoke about his experiences throughout his 16 year career.

Parents and pupils had the chance to speak to the various forces representatives in depth, asking questions about military life and what is required.

Major Banwell said: "Following on from an earlier seminar with Major Arundell last November, the forces careers evening helped students and their parents explore the wide variety of officer and graduate careers available and the many different sponsorship options whilst at university.

"Many pupils were surprised at the levels of support offered to recruits, especially in the medical services field.

"Those who hadn’t considered a career in the military before, went away positive about the experience.”
