BROMSGROVE residents are being praised for their recycling efforts in 2014.

Throughout the year 72,500 tonnes of waste was processed by EnviroSort, the state-of-the-art sorting facility in Norton.

This is a four per centre increase on the previous year.

The facility sorts the recycling collection, and it is then given a new lease of life making cars, aeroplanes, newspapers and new roads.

Councillor Anthony Blagg, Worcestershire County Council's cabinet member for environment, said: "The recycling figures are very encouraging and people in Bromsgrove have definitely played their part in making sure they continue to send their waste to be sorted and sent for recycling.

"Residents deserve to be praised for their efforts which are also helping the environment by reducing the amount of rubbish sent to landfill sites.

Bromsgrove District Councillor Mark Bullivant, whose portfolio covers environmental services, added: "Bromsgrove has some very rural and hard to get to areas and we have been working hard to ensure our recycling service is rolled out to more and more residents. I am delighted that people are taking the time to recycle and do their bit for the environment and ultimately save the planet for generations to come.”
