A BROMSGROVE school teacher has been elected to a prestigious national role.

Hannah Talbot has been elected to become the new chairman of the National Federation of Young Farmers' Club (NFYFC).

The 26-year-old is the head of the English faculty at South Bromsgrove High School, and has been a member of Cutnall Green Young Farmers’ Club for more than 10 years.

As well as previously being chairman of Worcestershire’s County Federation, Hannah also served as vice chairman of the national federation for two years, before her election to the top post.

The NFYFC is a leading rural youth organisation in England and Wales and Hannah will be the voice representing 25,000 young farmers from clubs and counties.

Hannah was elected to the post at the annual national council elections which took place at the Quality Hotel Coventry, on February 22.

She is set to play a key role on reinvigorating the 80-year-old organisation to make it relevant to rural young people, as well as celebrating what is great about YFCs and the role they play.

Hannah will also be running the Birmingham Half Marathon in October, and is asking NFYFC members to sign up to the event on October 18 to raise money for local charities.

“I’m really excited to be elected as the new chairman," Hannah said.

"I’m honoured to be leading an organisation that has so many members and offers such diverse opportunities.

“Young Farmers’ Clubs do so much work to support their local communities – not only by raising money for charities but also by being a vital social link for rural young people.

"I know how much of a lifeline our Young Farmers’ Clubs can be to rural young people in Worcestershire and this support is offered at all our clubs across England and Wales.

"I am hoping as many members as possible will join me on the Birmingham Half Marathon so we can show everyone how much money Young Farmers can raise for local causes.”
