A BROMSGROVE arts centre is holding a special evening lantern parade to mark a special anniversary.

The Artrix Centre, in School Drive, is inviting townsfolk to take part in the lantern parade on Saturday, April 25.

Preparations are underway for the spectacular event with Artrix Learning and Engagement, and Walk the Plank, have been working with more than 200 members of the community, including Sidemoor, Dodford and Meadows First Schools, Amber Support, YMCA Youth Group, HOW College, Brownies, Guides and Avoncroft Museum to run workshops to produce the large-scale lanterns for the parade.

The birthday celebrations have been made possible following support from Bromsgrove District Council, Art Council England’s Strategic Touring Programme, Saintbury Trust, the Elmley Foundation, Dancefest and Heart of Worcestershire College.

The event is family friendly and everyone is being encouraged to watch the parade which gathers in Bromsgrove High Street on the day, from 8pm.

The parade will then travel to the School Drive-based centre at 8.30pm.

People are invited to bring their own battery powered lanterns to carry on the parade.

The large scale lanterns produced at the workshops will be displayed near a stage at the Artrix Terrace where outdoor specialists Walk the Plank will be performing a free performance of Spellbound from 9pm.

Anyone taking part in the lantern parade is asked not to bring candles.
