A CHARFORD resident has slammed the state of garages near her home describing them as an eyesore.

Laurie Burford, who has lived at her Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (BDHT) property in Lyttleton Avenue for 12 years, says the garage area is in a poor state and has got worse in the last year.

Laurie said: "It is an eyesore, a dumping ground.

"I even tried to sell my house, but it was embarrassing when people came for visits.

"People said they liked the house but the area was letting you down.

"We need action and to make this area look decent again."

Laurie highlighted the uneven road surface, and ongoing flytipping as particular problems.

Laurie said she complains about the flytipping, which is cleared up, but it soon returns and sometimes takes longer to be picked up.

An Advertiser journalist contacted the housing trust, who said flytipping was a problem around Bromsgrove and the trust had run campaigns to stop people dumping items, encouraging them to dispose the waste correctly.

Gary Fowler, director of asset management at BDHT, said: "Whenever we receive reports of fly tipping, we clear it within 24 hours, but we do need more information from our customers to find out who is doing this.

"Anyone can ring our freephone number, 0800 0850160, to report any fly tipping and your call will be treated in confidence.

"The uneven road surface at the rear of Lyttleton Avenue in Charford is home to a number of our garages. At least 50 per cent of our garages are currently void due to a diminishing demand and investing a large proportion of BDHT’s funds into these garages is un-economical.

"However, if any of our tenants who rent a garage is unhappy with the condition of their garage or garage roads, we will either carry out small viable repairs or offer a garage elsewhere."
