VISITORS to popular countryside locations near Bromsgrove are again being urged not to leave handbags in their cars after 27 thefts were reported since the turn of the year.
Police are increasingly concerned about the increase in thefts from car parks at the Lickey, Clent and Waseley Hills car parks.
They say many of them have occured at lunchtime or the afternoons.
Patrols by police and community support offices have been stepped up and warning posters have been placed on the car parks.
However Bromsgrove Police's Crime Reduction Officer PC Stan Baker said the best way for people to avoid thefts from vehicles was to leave their bags at home or take everything with them.
PC Baker said: "Easter is traditionally a time for getting out and about in the fresh air and enjoying a country walk.
"However, over recent months we have had car boots broken into at country parks and beauty spots virtually every weekend and it is vitally important that people take heed of our warnings.
"Many of the victims are from Birmingham or the Black Country and there is nothing that will spoil an afternoon out more than getting back to their vehicle to find it damaged and a handbag stolen."
Anyone with information should contact Bromsgrove Police on 08457 444888 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
