A GROUP of four cousins from Droitwich have taken up a fundraising challenge to climb the highest mountain in England and Wales, in the dark.

Brother and sister, Aimee and Bailey Press, along with their cousins Lois and Jordan Press, and a fifth team member, Aimee’s boyfriend Wayne Bouchier, are all planning to climb Snowdon to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The climb is being organised in a bid to help their grandfather Ray Press who has Alzheimer's, and is currently a resident of New Haven in Bromsgrove.

The five plan to try and raise £400 each for a total of £2,000 before July 11 when they’ll be setting off into Snowdonia and climbing the peak in time to arrive at the summit for a beautiful and well-deserved sunrise.

23-year-old Aimee, said: “I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society as our granddad has been fighting Alzheimer’s disease for many years now. I'm looking forward to the climb and it will be great to see the sunrise from the highest point in Wales. It’s great to know that the money we raise will help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.”

She added: “The Snowdon Midnight Challenge really captured my imagination and I think it will be really exciting to do this hike by torch and moonlight. We are training regularly for the challenge. We walk about five miles twice a week and try to get out into the countryside to do longer walks on hills whenever we can.”

Jeremy Hughes, chief executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are delighted that they are giving their time to support Alzheimer’s Society. One in three people over 65 will develop dementia. It is caused by diseases of the brain and can happen to anyone.

‘As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals to help us continue our vital work. Please back them in their fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer's Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”

The team of five will be joining a larger group of all ages as part of the Alzheimer’s Society Snowdon Midnight Challenge. To sponsor their efforts, visit justgiving.com/A-Press or text RAYP followed by the amount you want to donate to 70070.
