YOUNGSTERS from a Bromsgrove School recently designed and created their own garden for a county show.

Children from Sidemoor First School took part in the RHS Malvern Spring Festival, held from Thursday, May 7, to Sunday, May 10.

Sidemoor's garden was of 11 showcased on the day.

The RHS Malvern School Gardens Challenge 2015 had its best ever results in its eight year history.

The Perryfields Road-based school was awarded a distinction - the highest grade available, and a grade that had never been given out before.

Chris Collins, BBC Blue Peter gardener said: "The children have to come up with a design, grow their plants and construct their gardens from scratch and this year the standard has been incredibly high with four gardens being awarded distinction and four highly commended.

"I can’t wait to see what they come up with next year."

Mari Jones, Sidemoor First School's headteacher, said: “We are all absolutely thrilled with the result as we feel that the distinction award recognises the hard work and effort that all staff and children have put in to developing the garden.

"Whilst the whole school is involved, particular recognition goes to the co-ordinating staff, Sian Farrell, Jane Gould and Julie Maddocks for their months of planning, commitment and dedication to the project.

"We were very pleased with the attention and positive comments that we received during the show. We are all very proud and are already looking ahead to the next one.”
