DUDLEY firefighters were called to an incident in Netherton where a man suffered burns after trying to light a fire using petrol.
Crews were sent to scene at around 11.30pm on Saturday (May 16) following reports of a man on fire in a garden.
Watch Commander Paul Clarke said the man had applied petrol to a naked flame to enhance the fire and the vapour from it caught fire.
The man suffered burns to his face, mouth and neck.
Mr Clarke said: "The message we want to get out there is this is the time of year when people are having barbecues.
"We say as a fire service enjoy the barbecue, but not to light a fire with petrol as an accelerant.
"It is a nasty combination which can cause really nasty injuries."
