BROMSGROVE residents are being encouraged to get involved with the latest fundraising event being organised by the town branch of a charity.

The Forget Me Not Walk, organised by the town's branch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, is being held on Sunday, June 7.

Participants are challenged to take part in a one, three, five, eight, or a 12-mile walk - which all begin at Sanders Park in Kidderminster Road.

Each walk will be marshalled by members of the Ramblers Association and the walks take participants around the beautiful countryside of Dodford, Chaddesley Corbett and Bournheath.

Since the event was first held in 2008, hundreds of residents have taken part.

The branch's chairman, Nicole Harris, originally organised the event in memory of her son, Marc, who died of the cancer when he was only nine in 1989.

Nicole said last year more than £9,000 was raised, and they hope to again raise at least a similar amount.

A good number of people have already registered, but Nicole hopes more will sign up before the day.

Participants are asked to wear appropriate shoes, bring refreshments, and be at the park for 10am on the day, when the first walk sets off.

Children receive a medal for finishing, while everyone also receives a t-shirt for taking part.

Online entry is now open and will close the night before the event at 6pm.

Anyone who prefers registering over the phone can do so by calling Maddy Hudson on 0131 524 1322.

Residents can also register on the day to take part, though they will pay a slightly higher admission fee.
