A horror smash on a rollercoaster which left four teenagers seriously injured has been described as alarming by a Droitwich teen who had ridden it just an hour before.

Two teenage boys and two teenager girls were left with leg injuries while riding The Smiler at Alton Tours after the carriage they were on hit a stationary carriage at just after 2pm yesterday.

A thug who punched a “gallant” man to the ground in Stourbridge town centre before brutally kicking and stamping on his head has been locked up for eight years.

Judge Nicholas Webb described the vicious attack carried out by Joshua Bernard on Callum Duncan as “dreadful” adding: “You could so easily have killed him.”

Voters in the Wyre Forest will go to the polls next Tuesday for the Areley Kings and Riverside ward district council election.

The election was due to take place on Thursday, May 7, but was postponed following the death of one of the candidates. The election for councillors for the Areley Kings East ward of Stourport-on-Severn Town Council will also be held on this day.

A Redditch mum has praised the quick thinking and hard work of staff at the Alexandra Hospital after giving birth outside the A&E department.

Sam Holder, from Headless Cross, gave birth to son Hugo at 5.18am on Thursday, May 28, on the pavement just outside A&E.

Her contractions started at 11pm on the Wednesday night and with husband Marc they decided to wait as long as possible before going to the hospital, wanting to be comfortable at home.

Newly-elected Dudley South MP Mike Wood took his opportunity to sing the praises of the Black Country and his predecessor in his maiden speech in Parliament.

Councillor Wood, who also represents Pedmore and Stourbridge East on Dudley Council, made his first speech in the Commons on Monday June 1.
