BROMSGROVE and Droitwich churches are being encouraged to get involved with a celebration marking the day when the Queen becomes the longest reigning monarchy.
Worcester Cathedral is leading the way by ringing its bells from noon on Wednesday, September 9, and churches in the two towns are being encouraged to also take part.
Buckingham Palace has calculated that Queen Victoria reigned for 23,226 days, and the Queen will overtake the record set by her great-great-grandmother on September 9.
Bishop John said: “This is a very significant day on which Her Majesty the Queen’s reign will surpass that of Queen Victoria.
"I encourage as much ringing as possible in the Diocese on that day and during the week as a mark of appreciation not only of the length of the Queen’s reign but of her magnificent Christian service throughout it."
