A POPULAR open air museum in Stoke Heath is opening its doors to the public.

Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings in Redditch Road, is offering free entry on Friday, September 11, as part of Heritage Open Day.

Heritage Open Day celebrates England's history and architecture with venues opening their doors to the public for free entry, for one day only.

The museum is award winning and its collection of buildings represent history spanning seven centuries.

Among the favourite attractions are a medieval Town House, a flat pack Victorian church and a fully-furnished 1940s prefab.

Buildings have been rescued from their original sites and carefully reconstructed at the museum. Avoncroft is also home to the National Telephone Kiosk Collection of working phone boxes dating back to the 1920s.

Avoncroft's visitors will be able to explore the 10 acre grounds, explore the collection of 30 rescued and restored buildings, and make phone calls from the classic phone boxes.

They can also enjoy delicious refreshments in the museum's historic tea room.

Car parking is free, while children can enjoy a children's play area.

Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds of the museum during the open day.
