RESIDENTS living near to Bromsgrove Railway Station are being consulted on the proposed changes to the footbridge that has led to a delay in the opening of the new station.

In July, the Advertiser reported that the station will not open to passengers until spring 2016, due to the decontamination process that took longer than expected to complete and the issues with the footbridge design.

These had to be redesigned to be 40 centimetres higher than the original design to conform with Europe-wide rail industry safety regulations for footbridges over electrified railways.

Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid wrote to residents at the time over the frustration at the delays, saying he had been told the change in height was to protect passengers from possible electrocution, for example by selfie sticks or helium balloons.

Worcestershire County Council is now seeking planning permission for the new footbridge and is opening up a consultation on the changes.

Full details on the proposal can be inspected at two locations during opening hours until Tuesday, September 22.

These include Bromsgrove Customer Centre in the Dolphin Centre, in School Drive, and County Hall in Spetchley Road, Worcester.
