A BROMSGROVE hotel has adopted the Stroke Association as its charity of the year for the third consecutive year.

The Hilton Hotel in Birmingham Road has once again adopted the charity, which has its national headquarters - the Life After Stroke Centre - in Church Road, Bromsgrove.

On Monday, (September 21), Claire Benfield, the regional fundraiser for the Stroke Association, visited the hotel to accept more than £8,500 in funds raised during the last year of the partnership.

Michael Squire, the Hilton Hotel's general manager, said: “We are proud to be working with such a great local charity, which supports people affected by stroke in our community and all over the UK.

"It’s important to recognise that stroke can affect people of any age. Providing support afterwards is vital for stroke survivors, as well as their families.”

The money was raised by local fundraising initiatives, including running, cycling, car washes and a summer fair, held by hotel staff.

The Stroke Association has been nominated by the hotel through the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People, a charity with whom it partners on an ongoing basis, to support its fundraising and voluntary campaigns.

The foundation has awarded grants totalling £12,756 since 2012 thanks to nominations by Hilton Birmingham Bromsgrove team members.

Claire Benfield, regional fundraising manager at Stroke Association, said: “With around 152,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s around one every three and a half minutes - it is vital that we have people who can raise funds for people affected by stroke.

"We’re incredibly grateful to the Hilton Hotel for choosing us as their charity of the year for the third year running. The money will go a long way in helping to support people who are living with the effects of stroke, as well as their families and carers."
