A CONSULTATION has been launched to gain the views of Bromsgrove residents on the plans for the new multi million pound leisure centre in the town.

Last year the Advertiser reported on Bromsgrove District councillors giving the green light to the scheme.

In July, it was reported the authority had snapped up the land of the former Blackmore House residential home in School Drive - near to the existing Dolphin Centre.

The plan is to demolish existing buildings and clear this site, which is where the new £13 million leisure centre would be built.

Subject to a successful external funding submission and planning permission, construction work on the building would start in spring 2016.

With a planning application set to be unveiled in the autumn for the new facility, a consultation has now been unveiled to gain the views of residents of the scheme.

Until Friday, October 16, displays will be exhibited at the Dolphin Centre, in School Drive, and in Council House reception area, in Burcot Lane.

Bromsgrove District Councillor Rod Laight, whose portfolio covers leisure, said: “We are investing in this new facility which we believe will serve our residents for many years to come, which is why we want to hear from them to make sure we have built in the facilities that were brought forward in previous consultations and that are affordable.

As well as the consultation, there is also the chance to meet the project manager and architect on Wednesday, October 7.

They will be at the venue from 1pm to 4pm, and 5pm and 7pm respectively.

Richard Smith from Mace - the mechanical, electrical and plant engineers involved with the project, said: “We are delighted to hear from and indeed meet the residents, groups and organisation who will be using the Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre.

“They are our customers and all their views will be considered as part of the final plans.”
