A BROMSGROVE couple have been pushing themselves to the limit to raise money for charity.

Martin Tidbury and Jackie Shakespeare took part in various fundraising challenges over the past three weeks, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Their first challenge was to take part in the Galway Half Marathon. The pair then climbed the highest peak in Wales, Mount Snowdon, and Carrauntoohil, the highest peak in Ireland.

The challenge culminated at the weekend with the Birmingham Great Run.

The fitness fanatics are also members of the Rock Choir - the choir part of the national contemporary choir organisation - so Martin and Jackie decided to show how much the support of fellow choir members meant by completing challenges wearing Rock Choir t-shirts.

The couple say they have Rock Choir to thank for their unstoppable energy levels.

“Joining Rock Choir really gave us a new lease of life,” Martin said.

“We would never have thought about doing this sort of thing in the past. I used to come home from work and watch the TV. Now we spend more time together as a couple, not only at the rehearsals, but also practising the songs together at home or in the car – or when climbing up mountains.

"Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and Don’t Stop Me Now definitely seemed appropriate choices when we were halfway up Snowdon.”

Martin and Jackie decided to fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support, for all their friends who have been affected by cancer.

Martin added: “Cancer has affected so many people we know.

"It took my mum when I was just 22 and my grandad when I was only 10.

"Since starting the fundraising campaign, so many people have told me their stories of how cancer has affected them, and how much Macmillan have helped them.

"I’m just so glad that everyone has been so supportive so that we can give back a little.”
