PUPILS at Chadsgrove School in Bromsgrove have received a boost for their new lifeskills area in the form of specialised accessible kitchen products from Droitwich firm AKW.

The new kitchen is fitted with easily accessible cupboards, drawers, and worktops, and also has four ovens and hobs, giving the children the opportunity to learn cooking skills in a safe and easily accessible kitchen environment.

The youngsters christened the new kitchen space by making their own pumpkin soup just in time for Halloween.

Liz Morgan, Chadsgrove School’s deputy head said, ”The room has totally transformed the teaching of food technology at Chadsgrove School. We can now actively develop the children`s independent cooking skills through the use of the modified access to the ovens, sinks and hobs.

The room also has brand new accessible small equipment. The facility is allowing pupils to gain essential life skills. It is a fantastic design.”

Kyle Knights, business development manager at AKW, visited the school to see the equipment in use. He added: “As part of the sales team I usually see customers at the planning and ordering stage and rarely see the end installation. It was wonderful to see the positive outcomes that our products have for the children to help regain their independence and opportunity to learn cooking skills. I had a great morning and left more enthusiastic than ever.”
