REDNAL residents still have time to respond to a public consultation on a proposal for a new food store.

Budget supermarket chain Aldi has revealed plans to redevelop land off Bristol Road South, in Longbridge, located next to the existing McDonald's restaurant.

The project would regenerate the site with the new store and a regional training centre for Aldi staff.

The plans represent a multi-million pound investment in Longbridge and would provide approximately 40 full and part-time jobs for the community.

A public exhibition was recently held on the plans, and Aldi say there has been strong support for the proposal with 95 per of feedback expressing support for the plans in principle.

An Aldi spokesman said: "Our plans for a new regional training centre and food store would make a vital contribution to the regeneration of Longbridge.

"We are confident this site is the best location for this facility, and that it would make a significant economic contribution to the area, as well as providing convenient food shopping for local residents.

"We’re delighted with the positive response that we have received so far. The existing Aldi at Northfield is very popular, and we would like to offer the same convenient local food shopping to residents of Rednal.

"When pledging their support, people have cited the employment opportunities associated with the proposal, the suitability of the site, and the need for a new food store in the area. We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to provide the development team with their views so far and would welcome more views from local residents before we draw up our final plans."

The proposal can be viewed at aldiconsultation.co.uk/rednal - where residents can also provide their feedback.

Alternatively, comments can be made by email to feedback@consultation-online.co.uk.

Feedback needs to be submitted before the deadline of Friday, October 30, to allow the development team to consider responses before finalising the proposal.
