MORE detailed plans to build 316 homes on Norton Farm land on the Birmingham Road, Bromsgrove have been approved by planners despite neighbour objections.

Plans include a children’s play area, 18 one-bed apartments, six two-bed bungalows and 292 two to five-bed houses - 126 of which will be affordable housing.

An outline application was approved by planners in July 2013, despite more than 100 residents attending the planning meeting to protest the potential for congested roads, noise issues and a harmful impact on wildlife.

Last night planners discussed the layout, scale, appearance and landscaping of the dwellings which have received another seven official complaints regarding the number of properties, the loss of light to surrounding homes and the single point of entry which some residents are concerned will be a highway safety concern.

Christine Curnow, a resident of Hawthorn Road in Bromsgrove, commented: “At peak times getting in and out of Upland Road from Birmingham Road can be a nightmare. With only one planned road in and out of the Norton Farm development this is certain to cause even more congestion.”

The planning committee agreed with Bromsgrove District Council’s recommendation to approve the application.

The majority of dwellings will be two storeys and will feature arched detailing above the windows, string courses, bay windows and will each have their own garden and allocated parking.

Building on the land at Norton Farm is expected to start in the next 18 months.
