YOUNGSTERS will be able to bring a bit of colour to their gardens over half term, while hopefully attracting a few feathered visitors with a craft workshop at Webbs Garden Centre.
The workshop, which is being organized as part of National Nest Box Week will give children the chance to decorate a nest box and take it home for their garden.
Webbs chairman Ed Webb said, “It’s a great time to remind ourselves to encourage our local bird life and children will love decorating these ready-made nest boxes.
“The idea behind the week is to get us all to put up nest boxes in our local areas, not only to protect the wildlife we already have, but to encourage even more birds in our backyards. Creating a nest box gives you the chance to contribute to bird conservation whilst giving you the pleasure of observing any breeding birds that you attract to your garden. Natural nest sites for birds such as holes in trees or old buildings are disappearing fast as gardens are ‘tidied’ and old houses are repaired so it’s good to all do our bit.”
The workshops will be running throughout half term from Monday, February 15, to Friday, February 19, and from 10am to 4pm. Entry is £5, which includes the cost of all materials involved.
The centre in Wychbold will also be running a free fun trail through the Riverside Gardens, and there will be the opportunity to have fantasy faces painted, as well as children’s fair rides for a small charge, and Professor Pepperpot, who will be entertaining youngsters with balloons and jokes.
