PUPILS at Aston Fields Middle School were encouraged to appreciate, respect and celebrate other cultures at the school’s All Different: All Equal day this week.

On Wednesday, February 10 each school year celebrated a different culture from around the world, with year fives practicing traditional Indian dance moves while year sixes learnt Eastern European songs from Poland and Russia.

Carole Teer, assistant head teacher at Aston Fields Middle School, said: “Our pupils learn that with freedom and diversity comes a need to respect difference.

“It is important to remember that we are all different and it is our differences that make us unique and special and that is what makes our country interesting.”

Year seven pupils focused on Caribbean culture, creating vibrant art and learning to play traditional music with guest musical band, Glamba.

The Far East was also explored, with some year eight children cooking Japanese foods and learning to use chopsticks while others tried their skills at origami and Japanese writing.

Mrs Teer added: “A wonderful day was had, celebrating cultural diversity and sharing important messages common to us all.

“Thank you to all the staff and pupils who made it another day to remember.”
