A TEN-STRONG group from Bromsgrove and Redditch AC tackled the London Marathon, with Richard Malin leading the way.

Malin set a new over-45s club record, smashing the old one set last year by 11 minutes when he completed the 26.2-mile course in two hours, 46 minutes and one second.

Also beating the previous M45 record was Rob Mole, who finished in 2:54:25 to be BARC’s second finisher.

Their performance earned them an automatic good for age place in the 2017 event.

A further seven club runners also managed the same feat, earning places within their particular age groups.

Malcom Duff was third inside three hours, while Mark Tanner, John Searle and Darryll Thomas all finished within four minutes of each other in a little over three hours.

The first two ladies, Debbie Fowler and Sarah Richardson, finished comfortably inside their 2017 qualifying times.

Chairman Len Quartly qualified for 2017 with a sub-five-hours time for M70 runners.

And making her marathon debut, Jennifer Lipscombe finished in a good time of 4:45:02.
