TODAY is the last day for residents to register their comments to Bromsgrove District Council regarding the planning application to build 1,300 homes on land surrounding Perryfields Road.

Developers Taylor Wimpey first put forward details about their plans for the site in 2014, but they only submitted an official application for outline planning permission on April 13 this year, which slipped under the radar for many residents.

Taylor Wimpey has sent out more than 4,000 letters to residents, businesses, stakeholders and councillors explaining the plans and how to comment on the proposals, but a number of residents around Perryfields Road feel they have been kept in the dark, and now there are only a few days left before public comments on the planning application are due to close on June 3.

Brett Rotheroe who lives close to the site has not received any communication from the developers. He said: “It’s absolutely ridiculous. I feel like I’m going barmy because nobody seems to be being notified. Time runs out on June 3. Down Perryfields Road there’s notices on the lampposts, but where nobody walks. Even people I know who live on Perryfields Road, they don’t know anything about it either.”

Resident Brian Oldfield added: “Not enough people know about this application as not all residents have been informed and there are no notices up.”

If the development were to receive approval it could see up to 1,300 houses being built, along with a 200 unit extra care facility, a mixed use local retail and community centre, and recreational areas including sports pitches. The site would also stretch all the way from Stourbridge Road in the north to Kidderminster Road in the south, meeting the M5 motorway to the west.

Bromsgrove District Council has so far received 27 letters from members of the public regarding the development, all opposed to the plans, and citing major concerns over traffic congestion, and the increased pressure on local doctors, schools and community resources.

A letter from the headteacher and governors at Sidemoor First School, voiced concerns over the school's ability to expand and accommodate more pupils, saying: "We suggest that a feasibility study should be carried out to explore whether it would be more cost effective to build a new school in its entirety as there are many potential issues with expanding the current school. Sufficient parking and drop off areas for parents is already a big issue and children’s safety may be further compromised by additional school traffic.

"We feel that this development will irrevocably change the existing character of the local area."

Helen Harvey of Melbourne Road, said: “It is hard to imagine a more unsuitable site for a large housing development.”

Kim Harrigan of Kidderminster Road, added: “How can the plans to build 470 odd houses on Whitford Road be thrown out at final appeal due to the total lack of infrastructure in Bromsgrove, only to be followed by these vile plans to build in excess of 1,300 houses amongst all the other planned developments associated with these houses. This area will be totally ruined.”

Ian Hughes from Redcross Farm on Perryfields Road, said: “Bromsgrove roads cannot cope with the present traffic situation. Further housing will make it even worse. If houses have to be built here then major road building is needed, specifically a Western bypass.”
