Getting on for 200 vintage commercial vehicles made their way through Bradford as part of an annual Trans-Pennine Run.

Organised by the Yorkshire branch of the Historic Commercial Vehicle Society, the event saw lorries, buses, recovery vehicles, tankers and taxis make their way from Manchester to Harrogate.

The route took the vehicles, which ranged in age from 30 years to almost 100 years old, from halifax, through Shelf to Bradford, and out through Shipley and Hollins Hill, Baildon, to continue their journey.

The oldest vehicle was a 1925 Model T Ford and vintage vehicle owners came from as far as Sussex and London to take part.

Chairman of the Trans-Pennine Run, Chris Sant, who owns a 1948 horsebox, said the journey took the older vehicles up to five hours, using A-roads only.

Mr Sant said: “We avoid the motorways, which wouldn’t have been built when most of these vehicles were on the road.

“Everyone travels at their own pace, we don’t go in convoy to avoid any problems on the road.

“This is the 48th run. I was a young lad spectator when the first one was held.

“It’s quite a spectacle, with lots of people milling around to see the vehicles. People know we hold the event on the first Sunday in August and they sit in their gardens or put chairs out on the footpaths to watch us go by, giving us a cheery wave.

“It was a wonderful turnout, one of the best we have ever had.”
