A FIRST community open evening held at Bradford District Pupil Referral Unit has been hailed a great success.

The school, also known as Anerley Street Vocational Centre, has helped turn around the lives of disadvantaged pupils.

The District PRU currently has a ‘good’ Ofted rating. Its new site was created in Anerley Street last year.

A recent open evening was held with invited councillors to see the improvements the school is making and included activities and a visit by Father Christmas. Food was provided by the Education Network and many current and former pupils attended.

The school provides caring support within a safe environment with a purpose to develop the students' academic potential.

Associate Heateacher Lee Whitworth said: "Our first community open evening was a great success and we would like to thank the huge number of local residents, businesses and councillors who attended and have supported our staff and students since we opened last year. As a result of the evening we are looking forward to developing a range of community projects with our pupils and local residents in the new year."
