HELEN Jones was re-elected as chairman of Bromsgrove District Council last night, and she has already started planning for her next year of charity work.

At an annual meeting of the district council on May 17, members voted for Cllr Jones to begin her second year in the role, supported by Slideslow ward representative Cllr Caroline Spencer as vice-chairman.

As part of her civic duties, Cllr Jones is now appealing to Bromsgrove's residents to suggest which charities should be the beneficiaries of her next year of council fundraising.

"Last year generous members of the public helped to raise just over £4,000 for Sunfield [Children's Home], which I chose as my charity because I felt that the money could really make a difference to some local children with severe and complex learning and behavioural needs," said Cllr Jones.

"Whilst I was out at events over the year I came across many charities in Bromsgrove who do an amazing job raising money, and many of them I’d not heard of before. So this year I would like to provide them an opportunity to be showcased as the civic charity while I help raise money for them.

"I’d like to listen to what residents have to say to choose the charity."

Nominated charities must be registered and located within the Bromsgrove district.

Email suggestions with reasons to chairman@bromsgrove.gov.uk. Submissions must be less than 250 words and received by Wednesday, May 31.

The chosen charity will be confirmed at or before the next council meeting in June.
