A FORMER student of North Bromsgrove High School is celebrating success after being appointed deputy vice-chancellor of Southampton Solent University.

Julie Hall, who is set to start her new role in August, has attributed her success to the 'wonderful' School Drive institution she attended in the 1970s.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Julie said: "I was a student at North Bromsgrove High School in the 70s and 80s and left after the sixth form to attend Kingston Polytechnic reading English Literature and Sociology. It was a wonderful school and I really enjoyed my time there. It set me on a research and career journey in teaching which continues today."

In her previous role as deputy provost at Roehampton University, Julie wrote the university’s first 'Learning and Teaching Strategy' and helped establish its first virtual learning environment.

Vice-chancellor of Southampton Solent Professor Graham Baldwin said: "We are delighted with this appointment. We had a very strong shortlist for the role but felt that Julie’s demonstrable commitment to excellence in learning, teaching and student attainment aligned perfectly with our vision of building an excellent and distinctive university.

"We look forward to welcoming her to Solent in August.”
