A SIDEMOOR woman, who overcame a three-month coma and a tumour 'the size of an A4 folder', is walking 10,000 steps a day in aid of the charity that saved her life.

Cherie Uhrmacher, 36, is taking part in Cancer Research UK's latest fundraising campaign 'Walk All Over Cancer', which encourages walkers to reach the milestone every day throughout June to fund vital research.

Cherie, who lives in Bromsgrove with her husband Lee, was just 22 when she had a fit that was so severe doctors put her into an induced coma to let her body recover.

It was only when she had a full body scan at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital that they discovered an ovarian tumour described by Cherie as 'the size of an A4 folder'.

Following six months of intensive operations and chemotherapy, Cherie went into remission, and is now well enough to take on the walking challenge, with the help of her whippet cross Maisey.

Bromsgrove Advertiser:

Cherie, who works as an insurance broker, said: "I believe that it’s thanks to research that I’m still here today and that’s why I want to encourage the people of Bromsgrove and beyond to put on their walking shoes and join me."

Jane Redman, Cancer Research UK’s spokesperson for Worcestershire, said: “Cherie’s a bit of a walking miracle, but you don’t have to be extraordinary to take up this challenge.

"Over the course of a month, walkers could tread through 150 miles, which is about the distance between Bromsgrove and Exeter."
