GREEN-thumbed Alcester residents are being invited to take part in this summer’s garden walkabout.

The event, which is now in its 27th year, sees at least 22 beautiful gardens around Alcester open to the public and usually raises several thousand pounds in aid of Cancer Research UK.

There will also be musical entertainment, an array of plants for sale, as well as teas, refreshments and ice-creams.

The walkabout is running from noon to 5pm on Sunday, June 18, and tickets are £5 from Church Street in Alcester on the day.

Over the years the event has raised more than £50,000 for the charity.

Secretary of Alcester Friends of Cancer Research UK Sue Blackburn said: "The gardens in the last three years have raised over £4,000 each year, so we are hoping to at least match that amount again this time."

No dogs are allowed in the gardens.
